Philipp Steen loves and plays music. Mainly being an improvisor on contrabass and bass guitar, he likes guitar, cello, piano and vocals for serious relaxiation. Philipp studied music at the University of Music and Drama Hamburg and has as a bassplayer performed and recorded with countless artists including Herb Geller, Wolfgang Schlüter, Danny Gottlieb, Geoff Keezer, Gary Husband, Joshua Redman, Horacio Hernandez, Jeff Ballard, David Schnitter, Bobby Shew, John Marshall, Ack van Rooyen, Bud Shank, Walter Norris, Anthony Wonsey, Lew Soloff, Billy Harper, Eric Alexander, Howard Johnson, David Kikoski, John Schröder, Ignaz Dinné, Lutz Büchner, Buggy Braune, Johannes Lauer, Sam Yahel, Lennie Cuje, Gary Campbell… Philipp currently works with: Hammer Klavier Trio (www.boris-net.com), Florian Trübsbach Groups (www.truebsbach.de), Herb Geller Groups (www.herbgeller.com), Wolfgang Schlüter Quartet (www.skiprecords.com), Milla Kay (www.millakay.de), Torsten Goods (www.torstengoods.de). He received the Dr. E. A. Langner-Foundation’s Jazz-Scholarship 2008. Since 2004 Philipp performs on wednesday nights with various bands at the Ponybar in Hamburg.
