Jasper Blom (1965) is a leading tenor and soprano saxophonist of the young Dutch jazzgeneration and one of the most versatile players in the Benelux.He studied a.o. with Dave Liebman, Bob Brookmeyer, Herb Geller and Joe Lovano and has performed with Lee Konitz, Chet Baker, Nat Adderley, Bob Brookmeyer, George Duke, Randy Crawford, David Liebman, Conrad Herwig and many other international reknowned artists.Twice he has won the European Jazz Award and he has played at major jazzfestivals in Europe, Asia, the Caribic and Canada and in clubs throughout Europe and the States. He has received compositions assignments from the North Sea Jazz Festival and the Jazz International Rotterdam FestivalAs a leader he has recorded five CDs with material ranging from energetic hardbop to free open improvised music.Jasper Blom currently is active as a player and composer of bothcontemperary improvised music and jazz, can be heard regularly throughout the Netherlands and Europe as an active player in different musical settings and teaches jazzsaxophone at the conservatory of Amsterdam.Jasper Blom leads a quartet with Monk award winning top guitarist Jesse van Ruller that combines accoustic jazz material with electronics.With pianist Harmen Fraanje he works regularly in duo trio and quartet form. With Arnold Dooyeweerd and Flin van Hemmen he coleads a free imrov trio.With New York based pianist David Berkman he coleads a quartet called ‘Dialect’ which has featured in the past ao Tom Rainey, Matt Wilson and Ed Schuller.He is a member of the Stefan Lievestro sextet, (one of the most energetic bands to emerge lately from the Dutch scene), the international woodwind octet of the German composer/arranger Florian Ross, the Dutch drum veteran Pierre Courbois’ sextet, the free improv octet Spinifex, the Fernando Lameirinhas band, Corrie van Binsbergens Grote Brokken, the band Tripod with Francien van Tuinen and many other bands and is frequently asked by Hollands top ensembles like the Metropole Orchestra and the Jazz Orchestra of the Concertgebouw to participate in studio and live sessions.
