THE PYRAMIDSAvant / Ethno / Funk / Jazz

The legendary band descend into the belly of the Stubnitz to play their powerful mystical sounds. Famous for their afro-centric free jazz sound they re-formed in 2007 after the discovery of their recordings from the 70’s. Originally from America where they were schooled at the legendary ANTIOCH COLLEGE they used a student grant to escape the US to travel to europe and then all over Africa which is where they get there ethno-influenced sound.Quoted as;

“…probably the most mysterious and legendary of all cosmic jazz collectives in the early 70s, in the succession of the immortal SUN RA not only musical, but also social experiments black consciousness and human society explored.This resulted in a mixture of anthemic saxophone improvisations and unbridled drum freak outs, a music that sounded the same to America, Europe and Africa and joined weightless and ecstatic moments with earthy lyrical, almost meditative phases. ”

In 2011 the band recorded their first album since 1977 at the studio of Krautrock legends FAUST in South Germany. OTHERWORLDLY was officially released by Munich’s long-running DISKO B imprint in fall 2012.This band is one of the most under-rated and little known spiritual jazz bands. A band that amidst a wave of hippy psychedelica took it upon themselves to find the roots of their music and in doing so created a mystical and deep understanding of music.

NOHOME

“Extreme, Heavy, Intense”

NOHOME is a new trio featuring guitarist Caspar Brötzmann (who has made a resurgence since 2012), bassist Marino Pliakas, and drummer Michael Wertmüller (aka the rhythm section from his father Peter Brötzmann‘s Full Blast group).Sounding like a wall of noise the music is somewhat similar to Brötzmann’s previous power trio, Caspar Brötzmann Massaker.

“His guitar playing is still Jimi Hendrix-in-1970 filtered through 1980s and 1990s art-metal and avant-garde fretboard techniques—he regularly attacks the pickups and the tuning board, seeming to avoid the strings almost entirely. His sound roars and crashes, surging like the ocean.”

To combine Brotzman and co. on to the Stubnitz soundsystem is a rare event. Since Brotzmans resurgence many have claimed that their powerful savage rock and, if anything just got better with age.
